Channel: In The World of AI Video title: Hermes Agent Foundation Update: Real-Time Agents, DeepSeek V4 FREE, Native Windows Support, & More! TRANSCRIPT (first 6000 chars): Past week, I've made several videos covering Hermes Agent, one of the most interesting open-source AI agent projects right now. It's designed as a persistent autonomous system that continuously evolves over time. It's built by News Research under the MIT license, and this is an agent that can run 24/7 off your own infrastructure while building long-term memory, reusable skills, and even a deeper understanding of its user itself. and it gets better as you use it more and more. But now Hermes has just received a massive official update from news research. This is with the launch of Hermes Agent version 0.14.0. Also being called as the foundation release. This is an update that is honestly huge cuz you have native Windows beta support. You have massive performance improvements, native video generation, codec runtime backend support for open AI models, a new handoff system, more integrations, better orchestration, and expanded autonomous workflows, and so much more. So, with that thought, let's just simply dive into it all. If you want the best AI tools, workflows, and drops before everyone else, join my free newsletter with the link in the description below, which is completely free. To start things off, probably the biggest update in Hermes agents recent release is the brand new local proxy feature. And honestly, this is genius cuz with Hermes, you can now use a single subscription like Claude, Chat GBT, or Grock and route it across basically any coding tool or autonomous agent locally without needing separate API keys for every single application. This proxy layer handles all the authentication and routing automatically, meaning it's easier for setup, less configuration headaches, you have low barriers to enter, and then you also have a simpler multi- aent workflow system. And this alone is probably going to massively increase adoption because it makes the entire AI tooling ecosystem feel way more unified and accessible. Also just an FI if you are looking to attach the Hermes proxy to the open AI compatible local proxy for oath providers that you can use open AI models like what your codeex plan what you can do is just simply type in Hermes proxy and from here this will ins [ASSISTANT] {"tldr":["Hermes Agent v0.14.0 (Nous Research, MIT) adds a local proxy that routes one Claude/ChatGPT/Grok subscription across any coding tool or agent — no separate API keys","Native Windows beta support drops the WSL requirement: pip install + `hermes setup` + `hermes update` now works directly on Windows","New Super Grok integration logs in via browser (no API key) and unlocks Grok 4.3 chat, TTS, image, video, and X/Twitter real-time search inside agents","`hermes proxy` exposes an OpenAI-compatible localhost endpoint powered by your existing Codex/Claude subscription — drop-in for any OpenAI client","Persistent 24/7 autonomous agent with long-term memory, reusable skills, and self-evolving behavior from user interaction"],"tools":[{"name":"Hermes Agent","url":"https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent","description":"Nous Research's open-source persistent autonomous agent with memory, skills, and local proxy routing"},{"name":"n8n","url":"https://n8n.io","description":"Workflow automation hub that ingests Claude Code webhooks and orchestrates multi-agent backends (video sponsor)"}],"skill_candidates":[{"slug":"hermes-agent-windows-setup","description":"Install and configure Hermes Agent on native Windows: pip install, hermes setup, hermes update, and proxy wiring"},{"slug":"hermes-proxy-subscription-router","description":"Use `hermes proxy` to expose an OpenAI-compatible local endpoint backed by a Claude/Codex/Grok subscription, eliminating per-tool API keys across the ecosystem"},{"slug":"claude-code-to-n8n-webhook","description":"Wire Claude Code file-change events into n8n via webhook, normalize the payload, and fan out to Slack/automation workflows"}],"verdict":"dont-miss","verdict_reason":"Hits 4+ Mike domains (AI agents, Claude Code, agentic coding, tool-building) and introduces a subscription-proxy pattern plus native Windows support that directly applies to Mike's multi-machine Claude Code + Codex ecosystem."}

And this skill is derived from this expose that Andrej Karpathy has wrote. And if you don't know what Andrej Karpathy is, he is previously a director of AI at Tesla and a founding team at OpenAI. And currently, this expose has got over 7 million views on X. And essentially, what this skill does is addressing the problems that Andrej Karpathy sees on X. And the first problem we see is the model here always make the wrong assumption. So, it doesn't ask clarification questions. When you give it a problem, act on it. And the second problem that he sees is that model here often times over complicating things. Things can be wrote in 100 lines, often wrote in 1,000 lines. And often times, large language model here making changes that they're not supposed to without clear understanding about the full side effects. So, that's why in this video, we're going to take a look at what it is, how does it work, and how does it different compared to any other skills that we have used in the past. So, with that being said, if you're interested, let's get into the video. Now, before we continue, I recently launched our school community where help you to master AI agents, automations, and so much more. And that's all coming from someone who used to work as a senior AI software engineer at companies like Amazon and Microsoft. And in this community, you're going to get over 100 plus video materials like templates and workflows that I personally built and sold over 100 plus times. On top of that, you're also going to get access to our weekly live calls. And just to give you an idea, this week we're actually running a Claude call masterclass where we're going to dive into how to improve Claude call's accuracy, and we're going to use it to building applications. Plus, you're also going to get full community supports where you're going to get a chance to ask questions and get direct answers back. So, if you're ready to level up, make sure you jump right in, and I'll see you in a community. All right. So, to get started, let's take a look at what this skill is trying to offer. Channel: DIY Smart Code Video title: ast-grep Solves the Problem Every AI Coder Has TRANSCRIPT (first 6000 chars): Your AI agent is bleeding tokens, right now. Here's the proof. It just flagged a string of text as a real bug, in quotes, inside a test fixture. Then it billed you to investigate. There's a smarter search. Your agent doesn't have it yet. Every AI coding agent has the same blind spot. Cloud Code, Cursor, Copilot. They all lean heavily on text search for exact code hunts. But text search can't tell a real call from a string. And that's where As grep wins. Watch what that cost you. Meet As grep. It's a smarter search tool that reads your code as code, not as a wall of text. A regular search sees characters. As grep sees structure. Functions, calls, try-catch blocks, the real shape of what you wrote. You hand it to your agent in one config line. Now your agent stops getting fooled and stops billing you for the cleanup. But how does it actually work? Three steps. First, your code gets parsed by a library called tree-sitter. It turns every line into a tree of nodes. Functions, calls, arguments, strings, comments, each one tagged by what it actually is. That tree is called an AST. Second, As grep matches patterns against the tree, not against the text. You write a pattern that looks like real code with a meta variable for the parts that change. Dollar sign VAR matches any single node. Three dollar signs body matches any list of nodes. So, if you ask for a console.log of dollar sign VAR, As grep finds every real call and skips every string that just looks like one. A console.log written inside a comment or inside quoted text isn't a call node. It can't match a call pattern. Third, it runs in Rust on every CPU core. So, a full code base scan is fast. That's it. Tree-sitter for the shape. Pattern matching on nodes. Multi-core in Rust. Now, your agent doesn't get fooled. Watch your agent waste your money. You ask it to clean up debug logs. With the dumb text search, the agent finds 164 matches across 22 files. It opens every one. But, here's what's hiding inside deck executor.test.ts. A test fixture passes the literal string console.log hi. It's not a real call. It's just quoted text. The agent reads the whole file, triages it, and bills you. As grep skips it instantly. 12 files, not 22. One example isn't a pattern. So, we tested five comm [ASSISTANT] {"tldr":["ast-grep is a structural code search tool that parses code into an AST (via tree-sitter) instead of doing dumb text search, so agents stop matching strings/comments as real calls","Test showed dumb text search over-counts by 19-122% across common patterns (console.log, setTimeout, promise chains, useState) — every false hit costs tokens when the agent opens the file","Install with `npm install -g @ast-grep/cli` then `npx skills @ast-grep/agent-skill`, restart Claude Code, and explicitly say 'use ast-grep to find' or it falls back to text search","Roughly halves token usage on refactor tasks vs Grep — author estimates ~$15/dev/month in waste at 50 refactors/day","Positioned as the lightweight middle vs Semgrep (heavy/slow), Comby (less precise), GrepQL (steep DSL), IntelliJ structural search (IDE-locked)"],"tools":[{"name":"ast-grep","url":"https://ast-grep.github.io","description":"Structural code search/rewrite CLI using tree-sitter ASTs, 20+ languages, Rust-fast"},{"name":"ast-grep agent-skill","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/@ast-grep/agent-skill","description":"npm-installable Claude Code skill that gives the agent ast-grep as a search tool"},{"name":"tree-sitter","url":"https://tree-sitter.github.io","description":"Parser library that produces the AST ast-grep matches against"}],"skill_candidates":[{"slug":"ast-grep-search","description":"Force Claude Code to use ast-grep for structural code search instead of Grep when hunting function calls, hooks, or patterns — cuts false positives and token burn on refactors"},{"slug":"agent-token-audit","description":"Measure token waste from dumb text search on a codebase: count Grep hits vs ast-grep hits across common patterns (console.log, setTimeout, useState) to quantify refactor cost"}],"verdict":"dont-miss","verdict_reason":"New tool with a Claude Code skill installer, directly cuts token spend on Mike's primary agentic coding workflow — hits agentic coding + Claude Code + tool-building in one drop-in config line."}

Your agent doesn't know. One example isn't a pattern, so we tested five common searches. Dumb text search overcounted by 26% on debug logs. 19% on set timeout, 30% on promise chains. 122% on use state, pure build waste. Translate that into money. 22 files of false positives is roughly 11,000 tokens. Call it a cent per refactor, scale it up. 50 refactors a day, 30 days a month, that's $15 per developer. Just on web search. Meet Asgrep. It reads your code as code. Not as a wall of text. Regular search sees characters. Asgrep sees structure. Functions, calls, try-catch blocks. The real shape of what you wrote. Three steps. One, tree-sitter parses your code into a tree of nodes. Each one tagged by what it actually is. Two, Asgrep matches patterns against the tree. Giving your agent Asgrep takes two commands. npm install -g @ast-grep/cli then npx skills @ast-grep/agent-skill. Restart Claude code. Tell it, use Asgrep to find. So, here's the question. Your AI agent burns 122% more on every refactor than it needs. One config line, or accept the waste. Drop your pick in the comments. The full breakdown is on this channel. Now, to enable the first one, which is a built-in dashboard that does If you notice yesterday's demo, we get we get sent to the Hermes terminal user interface within our Ubuntu app on Windows, right? But, there is a Hermes dashboard that by default is not enabled. So, what you want to do is type in Hermes dashboard. And it's going to get to work enabling it, as you can see here on the right-hand side. I already have this localhost with the port 9119 set. And as you can see here, I mean, look at the logs. We are also going to control out of that. It's So, as you can see, once I essentially end that session, it ends the dashboard. So, how do we solve this, right? Well, the solution here is just talking to your agent. So, we're going to spin up Hermes. And we're going to tell him, "I'd like to enable the Hermes dashboard and would like it to always start up with Ubuntu. It should always run in the background." Right? I wanted to show you the way that the docs tell you to set it up. And I wanted to close out of that session to show you that it doesn't stay active. You have to actually communicate with your agent to have it stay active 24/7 as long as your Ubuntu machine is online. And the best way to do that, talk to your agent. I know. All right. As you can see here, it's done. The Hermes dashboard is now enabled as a system D user service and it's running in the background. So, one thing we also want to do is I'd like to authenticate Claude code in the CLI so that sub-agents can benefit from our Claude subscription. Instead of me giving you a master prompt, I'm showing you the step-by-step it takes to, you know, this is the second hidden feature that yes, you'll discover that it's in the docs.
